Treatments for Mums to Be
We all expect to ‘glow’ during our pregnancy but not as many expectant Mum’s are so lucky. During pregnancy, blood hormones change with an increase in oestrogen and the melanocyte stimulating hormone (MSH). These hormones can significantly change the way our skin appears and behaves. The most common are changes in pigmentation, known as Melasma; veins may be more visible and acne may worsen, and as your bump grows stretch marks may appear. Such changes are natural during pregnancy and most revert to normal one your baby is born. Looking after your skin during pregnancy also raises concerns over the type of products that can safely be used. All Mums should avoid the use of ingredients such as AHA’s, BHA’s and Retinol based products both during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
