Harnessing the power of pure ingredients.

Who says that medical grade skincare has to be harsh to be effective? At Heath Skin we combine the power of medical grade active ingredients with the soothing natural power of various herbs and botanicals to provide protection and nourishment to delicate skin that needs it most.

We have expertly created a blend of anti-aging formulations that are clinically proven to tackle both the natural and man-made challenges faced by our skin to ensure consistent results. Read on to discover our top five naturally efficacious ingredients to help slow the visible signs of ageing. We include so many others too but naturally it’s hard to pick favourites!

1. Algae Peptides

Peptides are small but mighty. They have a small molecular weight that can penetrate the barrier of the epidermis and impact the dermis (deeper layer of the skin). Consequently, they have the ability to produce rapid and visible changes in the appearance of the skin over other skincare ingredients. When it comes to anti-aging, they are extremely beneficial for tightening and firming the appearance of the skin. Algae peptides are a unique natural extract from the Hawaiian Sea and contain a component called hydroxyproline. This unusual amino acid is particularly efficient at providing moisturising and firming properties when applied to the skin topically.

2. Argireline

Also know as Actyl-hexapeptide-3, is another element made up of peptides. These chains of amino acids directly influence how muscle cells work by destabilising the final stages of signals that are sent to force the muscles to contact. Studies have shown that formulars containing formulas of just 10% Argireline reduced visible fine lines and wrinkles by 30% over 30 days.

3. Glycolic Acid

You’re likely to already be familiar with this one as it is already commonly used within skincare products and with good reason. As an alpha hydroxy acid (or AHA) Glycolic is a very effective exfoliator that removes the outer layer of dead skin cells, revealing a rejuvenated new layer of skin. The bit that sets Heath Skin apart? We use a much lower pH than most other retail brands to make them suitable for even the most sensitive skins. Think that this makes them less effective? You’d be wrong! Studies have shown that lower pH formulations of pure glycolic acid are up to 60% better at encouraging skin cell turnover.

4. Grapefruit Seed oil

Grapefruit extract is naturally rich in antioxidants and helps to reduce the production of melanin in the skin (responsible for pigmentation), increase moisture and consequently provide anti-aging benefits. This natural botanical has a purifying and energizing effect on the skin combined with mild exfoliation (it is naturally acidic) and added hydration.

5. Retinol & Retinyl Palmitate

Finally, we turn to the powerhouse in anti-aging that is Vitamin A. Now, we know we’ve cheated slightly here but these two were too effective not to include. Retinol is a member of the highly successful Retinoid family of vitamin A derivatives. These tiny molecules can penetrate the outer layers of the skin and are then broken down into retinoic acid (the active component) by specialised enzymes within the skin. This active helps to rebuild the lower layers of the skin’s structure, helping to increase collagen and hyaluronic acid production. Retinol is generally better tolerated by most skin types than it’s more acidic family member Retin A and studies have shown that one month’s nightly application of 0.15% retinol can reduce wrinkle appearance by 30%.

Retinyl Palmitate is an organic compound (ester) of retinol that is combined with palmitic acid which takes longer to break down in the skin to form retinoic acid. This results in a gentler form of retinol suitable for sensitive skin and is generally the most well tolerated form of vitamin A you can apply topically. It helps to increase collagen and hyaluronic acid product in the same way and boost the appearance of skin elasticity and skin brightness.
